Library Adds STEM Integration Library STEM Integration Interview Show Transcript Hi guys! Novalie here with Mr. Lynch and Mrs. Vincent talking about what 4th 5th and 6th grade are doing called the putt putt... whose idea was it? It was my idea as you know on Tuesday April 4th our author John David Anderson will be here... we're very excited for that and I wanted to read a novel to our older students who will be seeing the author and one of the books that I read was One Last Shot and whenever I do a read-aloud I also think about what activity can I do with the students to accompany the novel?... and obviously a book about Putt-Putt having the kids create Putt-Putt is the first thing that came my mind... however I got really nervous and thinking there's no way I can pull this off but then at the end of the year we found out that we were going to have a STEM coordinator and I thought, you know what? I can do this with help and the school has somebody that can help me... so, once I knew that Mr. Lynch could help me I knew that this was the novel we would do and had the perfect activity to accompany it which is creating our Putt-Putt course. When are we doing it and who all are doing it... who all will be doing it? The Putt-Putt golf is going to be done toward the end of the year and Miss Vincent and I... we're going to get some exciting decisions made as to which grade level 4th 5th or 6th grade does the best, but the author's coming the 4th... that's Tuesday... then the kids are going to be designing and creating and building the putt putt golf and then they'll play it, actually, closer towards the end of the year. Why are we doing this? Again, it's a great idea to incorporate an activity into a model or into a book that were reading, but also wanting to be a STEM school, wanting to do a STEM activity and with Mr Lynch's help... that, it just blended together perfectly Is there anything else you guys would like to say? Well, I tell you, I've taught for 39 years and I know for a fact there has never been in my teaching career a STEM activity mixed in and integrated at the library! So, hats off to Mrs. Vincent for asking me to come in and help participate in this. It's exciting... it's putting a new twist into the literacy part of the library, and who knows? Maybe we'll start seeing STEM things in other grade levels and other subjects, too. So we're excited about that! Thank you! Now back to you Sophia and Ryan... How about this for STEM integration??? Librarian, Jennifer Vincent, reached out to Phil Lynch and requested STEM involvement!!! This was an interview shared on the North Side News school announcements!
